Description |
Nice example of a original
unshortened Koto blade with a genuine signature. From the late Koto
period, this sword has a beautiful strong shape that was present
amoung many swords made for battle during the Muromachi period.
Because this was a time when many swords were produced just for
battle, there are very many different levels of quality. This sword
was NOT mass produced, as it made by a known maker from that period.
The Mino Seki School was well known for their sharp, strong blades,
and when they were signed, they were made better than the unsigned
mass produced pieces given to lower ranked warriors. This sword
is very thick, the hamon is easy to see as the sword is in an old
clean polish. The textbook gunome hamon has lots of ashi with some
yo in places. The jitetsu is made up of masame with itame, textbook
of that from the late Mino School . The boshi is very healthy and
shows some nie activity. The only flaws in the sword that we can
see, are in the shinogi in a few spots, but are not serious. Kanemori
was a smith from the well renowned Akasaka group. They made many
swords that were known for their “battle worthyness” . The handle
is an old one, with very nice fuchi kashira done in iron with gold
kiri mons in various places. They are of very nice quality. The
menuki are good shakudo dragons, and are better than they appear
due to being under the wrap. The tsuba is an interesting large iron
plate with shakudo used for the inserts. This is a signed Shoami
piece, and in very nice condition. The scabbard is a very nice mixed
red and black with a large iron kojiri. The mount on a whole is in
very good condition . |
